syíyaya Days is a vibrant multi‑day cultural celebration held annually in Ch’atl’ich | Sechelt, running from National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) through to Canada Day (July 1). The festival was launched in 2022 through a unique partnership between the District of Sechelt, the shíshálh Nation, and the syíyaya Reconciliation Movement, and honours Indigenous culture, community, and shared history.
Designed as a welcoming and inclusive experience for all ages, syíyaya Days features a rich program of cultural events, performances, art installations, community gatherings, and educational activities. Visitors can take part in storytelling and arts experiences like the syíyaya StoryWalk®, cultural tours and dialogue sessions, live music, family activities, and more, all aimed at fostering connection and mutual understanding.
The festival culminates in a lively Canada Day parade and celebration in downtown Sechelt, complete with pancake breakfasts, music, food vendors, and family‑friendly fun in Hackett Park. syíyaya Days is more than a festival, it’s a community‑rooted journey of learning, respect, and celebration of the living cultures of the Sunshine Coast.
