Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre announces the return of our Holiday Boutique, a one-day shopping event on Saturday, December 6, 2025. From 10 am to 4 pm, visitors are invited to skip the crowded malls and explore a curated selection of thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts from eight select Japanese artists and designers. Admission is free.

The 2025 Holiday Boutique theme is Japanese aesthetics that enhance daily life.

A Showcase of Unique Craftsmanship

The boutique offers artistry rooted in Japanese culture and technique. Highlights of this year’s lineup include:

  • Bingata by Tamaki Koizumi: An Osaka-based artist who brings over sixteen years of dedication to the traditional Okinawan craft of Bingata (dyed textiles). Koizumi, a graduate of Kyoto University of the Arts, will share her finely crafted pieces.
  • Sasaki Art Gallery: Featuring established Japanese-Canadian artist Terry Sasaki, known for his unique, expressive style that blends Eastern and Western influences across diverse works, including paintings, mixed media art, and jewelry.
  • Beauty Secrets of Japan: Founded by Mami Mizutani, this company shares natural wellness secrets from Osaka, offering 100% natural bath and beauty products inspired by generations of Japanese soapmaking tradition.
  • Hinto Handmade and Picchie Zakka: Shoppers can discover beautiful, approachable Japanese zakka (everyday items) and accessories. Picchie Zakka focuses on natural, sustainable materials, while Hinto Handmade modernizes traditional Japanese fabric and embroidery techniques into wearable art.

Other participating artists include Haruka Nakazawa of atelier mitenand (material chemistry-inspired jewelry), Kaori Kasai of Sleepless Kao (illustrations and children’s books), and Chikayo Shiwa of Wren Creation (jewelry made with Japanese Washi paper).

Shop Local, Enjoy Treats

To complete the festive shopping experience, the event will feature treats and beverages from local food vendors, including Wa-Bagel, Mukasi coffee, and La porte de l’espoir.

The Holiday Boutique offers a peaceful environment to find distinctive gifts. Join us for this special event.
