Evening Events in the City of Coquitlam: February 2018

Residents and visitors alike are always looking for new, accessible, and enriching experiences in the City of Coquitlam. Whether you are looking for date night ideas or simply to have an art-filled evening out, check out our list to see some of our most anticipated events in Coquitlam, this week’s featured creative community.

  1. Fine Art & Wine | Place des Arts | Feb 16, 2018, 7:00 PM

Utilizing several mixed media, A Mosaic of Our Past (the first of three exhibitions offered this month at Place des Arts), offers up the unique perspectives of local artists on the unique history of the multicultural landscape that is Coquitlam. Next, Balance, a Fibre Art Exhibition by Mardell Ramptonn, blends contemporary abstract textile cloth and commercial textile paintings with her long-standing love of the oceans, skies and forests of the West Coast of Vancouver Island in order to explore the tension between striving to achieve balance while immersed in a continual state of imbalance. Lastly, Lori Sokoluk’s Port Town blends soft elements, lines, and curving shapes with mechanical and industrial elements, to provide her commentary on industry, wealth, national security, prestige, and access to nature. Head to Place des Arts on February 16th for the opening reception of their new exhibitions, and try a selection of wine pairings from their exhibition sponsor. No RSVP required.

  1. Hors d’Oeuvres & Conversations | Mackin House Museum | Feb 13, 2018, 7:00 PM

The Mackin House Museum is proud to present a very unique experience through its speaker series feature: Unmentionables of the 1920’s. Speaker Melanie Talkington, Corsetiere of Lace Embrace Atelier Inc., and artist with a vast collection of vintage pieces in the Louvre, Paris, New York and local museums, offers up her extensive knowledge on the evolution of lingerie and garment making. View original examples of frivolous, colourful lingerie, corsets, and cheeky garters, with tea, coffee and bites to satisfy you stomach as well as your eyes. Call Mackin House at 604-516-6151 to secure your spot.

  1. Love & Laughs | Evergreen Cultural Centre | Feb 15, 2018, 8:00pm

Brought to you by the Just For Laughs approved, and Comedy Central Canadian Comedy Award-nominated duo, Hip.Bang!, The History of Romance is a comedic take on the authoritative history of romantic thought. From Romeo and Juliet, to the chaos of dating in the modern age, this show is sure to make you laugh (and cry) about the beauty and complications of love. With “✮✮✮✮✮” recommendations from the Edmonton Journal, it is sure to provide an entertaining and humour filled evening for all that attend. Visit the Evergreen Cultural Centre link to secure your tickets.
