Highlights from the Collection at the Vancouver Art Gallery is a long-term exhibition (2026–2030) that showcases works drawn entirely from the Gallery’s permanent collection.

This exhibition offers a dynamic overview of the Gallery’s holdings, presenting a visual history of British Columbia while connecting it to broader global art movements. Featuring everything from historical paintings to contemporary installations, the works are organized in thematic groupings that reflect the different environments in which art has been experienced—ranging from salon-style displays and domestic interiors to experimental artist-run spaces and modern “white cube” galleries.

Rather than a fixed display, the exhibition evolves over time, with rotating selections of works on paper and photography. Through these changing presentations, Highlights from the Collection explores how artistic values, cultural contexts, and curatorial approaches have shifted, ultimately illustrating how art both shapes and is shaped by the place in which it is created.
