Art-BC’s List of the Best Places to Visit in Parksville!

For this week’s Creative Communities feature, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite places to visit in Parksville, BC. For residents and visitors alike, beach days, museum visits, and fine art experiences are but some of the things to look forward to in one of the most beautiful destinations on the Vancouver Island.

  1. MONK Art Gallery

From endless ocean views, Monk Art Gallery, idyllic beach scenes, beautiful Gulf Island coastlines, spectacular old-growth forests, serene gardens and ancient totem poles, Monk’s exquisite use of colour, detail and depth, encompasses all the beauty of Parksville, making it a must-see for art lovers.

  1. Robert Held Art Glass

His goblets have been selected to grace the table of the Governor General, and his beautiful glass work is present in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IIs collection. One of Canada’s most iconic glass artists, Robert Held, has brought his studio to Parksville, carrying everything from vases to bowls, and hearts to paperweights inspired by the work of famous artists such as Monet, Klimt and Tiffany. For fans of glass work, his gallery is a dream.

  1. McMillan Arts Centre

With three Gallery spaces, a studio classroom, and an artisan gift shop showcasing local artwork, exciting monthly exhibits, Jazz, Folk and Storytelling Concerts, The McMillan Arts Centre is sure to have many events and experiences during your travels to the Beach City.

  1. The Old School House Arts Centre

There is a multitude of things to do at the Old School House. Continuing its long history of showcasing local artists, and providing workshops for the Parksville community, the Arts Centre has wealth of new experiences for its patrons. In addition to offering learning experiences for all that come through, the Centre hosts number of music events, and local art offerings at its in-house gift shop.

  1. Parksville Museum

Compiling, preserving, and striving to honour Parksville’s artifacts and archival materials, Parksville Museum’s expansive collection is sure to excite those curious about the history of the early settlers, organizations and businesses of the community.

  1. Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort

Overlooking the sandy beaches and calming waters of the Strait of Georgia, if you’re a visitor to Parksville/Qualicum Beach, or a resident looking to pamper yourself with a stay-cation, you have to stay here! Just a short drive from the art galleries, shopping, dining, cave spelunking, swimming, fishing, hiking, and beachcombing in the Parksville area, make sure to book at Sunrise Ridge.
