The distinctive oil painter, Leanne M Christie, moved to the Canadian West Coast at the end of 2008. She spent over a decade in Europe and grew up in South Africa. We carry a selection of her artwork, on display in our art gallery with paintings available for purchase.

Leanne M Christie  studied at the influential Rhodes University art school in South Africa where she was instilled with the love of the painting process. Her artwork penetrates deeper than the painting’s subject. It reveals a skilled and intuitive understanding of the painting language itself.

In her art, Leanne M Christie is best known for her careful placement of brush strokes which seductively lead the viewer at a pace determined by the artist and the removal of colour as a fundamental element.

In her paintings, she experiments with a hierarchy which places supremacy on brushstroke and colour. Then finally,  through composition without retreating into abstraction.

Leanne M Christie’s paintings are easily identifiable in our art gallery by their powerful use of white, the myriad of greys. In her art, the vigorous brushwork which dances on the edge of abstraction and their exploration of the urban streetscape as the catalyst of culture.
