Shop your local Northwest Coast First Nations owned & operated Gift Store, located 5km West of Terrace BC on HWY 16W for Manitobah Mukluks, Grant Pauls, Chloe Angus, Pendleton Woolen Mills, Silver Jewelry and many more local artists!
The arts and craft gift shop was originally built and opened in 1971 with a general store. In 1995 the Kitsumkalum Community Center and House of Sim-Oi-Ghets was rebuilt to resemble a traditional long house. The new building was re-opened in April 1996.
The store displays an original west coast design by the late local artist Freda Diesing. The designs depict the four main crests (dzepk) which are representations of the histories of families of Kitsumkalum: Ganhada (Raven Clan), Gisbutwada (Killerwhale Clan), Laxgibuu (Wolf Clan) and the Laxsgiik (Eagle Clan), with a Robin on top. The Robin is associated with our legend of how and why we as the Kitsumkalum First Nations’ people settled here.
The Kitsumkalum, a Galts’ap (community) of the Tsimshian Nation operates the community-owned business, House of Sim-Oi-Ghets. Since 1971 our local gift store has been successfully supporting local First Nation artists and crafters by featuring their traditional and modern arts and crafts for sale in our store near Terrace BC.
