Surrey is home to vibrant, multicultural communities and a creative spirit shaped by the people and cultures that animate the city. With six distinct neighbourhoods to explore, the city offers a rich mix of cultural experiences, global flavours, and creative encounters that reveal Surrey’s character at every turn.
Situated between the Fraser River and the U.S. border, Surrey is the fastest-growing city in Metro Vancouver. Its diversity and momentum are reflected in a cultural landscape that spans heritage, contemporary art, community-led spaces, and emerging creative voices.
Visitors can explore Surrey’s evolving story at the Museum of Surrey, where interactive exhibits and historic buildings bring the city’s past and present together. The Surrey Art Gallery showcases contemporary and digital works by local, national, and international artists, while the Black Arts Centre presents powerful exhibitions and programming that centre Black artists and cultural expression.
Public spaces throughout the city feature Indigenous art installations that honour the land’s original stewards and invite reflection and learning. Surrey is also home to the Amelia Douglas Institute, which hosts community art exhibitions highlighting the work of Métis artists from across British Columbia and celebrating Indigenous voices, stories, and creativity.
At Studio Seventy Three, artists supported by the Community Living Society create glassware and wearable art in an inclusive studio environment that fosters confidence, connection, and creative expression.
Food is another lens through which Surrey’s culture comes alive. The Surrey Spice Trail highlights a curated and evolving selection of locally loved restaurants, offering a flavour-forward introduction to the city’s global cuisines. From South Asian and Middle Eastern to African, Latin American, and beyond, the trail reflects Surrey’s deep cultural roots and ever-growing culinary scene.
Whether visiting for the first time or rediscovering the city, Surrey offers experiences grounded in culture, creativity, and genuine connection.
