Oak Bay, located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is part of the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) peoples, also known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. This beautiful coastal community offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore Indigenous culture through art, history, and the deep connection the Lək̓ʷəŋən people have with the land and waters of the region.

Explore Indigenous Landmarks and Public Art

Visitors can begin their journey at Uplands Park, home to Cattle Point, an area with deep spiritual significance to the Lək̓ʷəŋən people. The site features interpretive signs that share Indigenous history and perspectives on land stewardship. Throughout Oak Bay, Indigenous art installations celebrate Coast Salish traditions, including totem poles and carvings that tell the stories of the region’s First Peoples.
