Over the winter season, the Madrona Gallery will be presenting several exhibitions. The first show is a new solo exhibition highlighting the energetic brushwork, deftly layered shapes, and expressive colour of Rick Bond’s signature brand of contemporary Impressionism. An award-winning artist based in the Okanagan region, Rick has exhibited across Canada, including in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto, participating in juried shows and producing work for corporate commissions.
The second exhibition shows the work of Takao Tanabe, a man who has become an icon of Canadian art through a lifetime of unwavering commitment to his craft. Looking back, it is easy to take his position in the Canadian art world for granted. However, Tanabe endured and persevered through a career that spans over seven decades. Over that time, the world has changed a great deal. Takao Tanabe’s art reflects those changes through a distinct perspective that has come to embody modern art in Western Canada.
The third exhibition is a special anual exhibition that brings together staff favourites and new works by gallery artists to showcase the diversity of voices and styles from artists across the country. The exhibition will rotate weekly to highlight work from each of the gallery’s artists, and includes a selection of important historic Canadian works from the gallery’s collection.
