Stephen Shore: Uncommon Places is a major photography exhibition presented at the Vancouver Art Gallery from March 27 to July 19, 2026. It features a compelling selection of works from Shore’s iconic series, created during road trips across North America between 1973 and 1981.
Widely regarded as a landmark in the history of photography, Uncommon Places helped establish colour photography as a serious artistic medium. Drawn from a significant recent donation of over 800 photographs, the exhibition offers one of the most comprehensive presentations of this influential body of work. Alongside well-known images of life on the road, the show highlights Shore’s photographs taken in Canada and reflects on the people and places that shaped his journeys.
