Event Category: Exhibitions
Sacred in All Forms at the Campbell River Art Gallery is a contemporary exhibition exploring the sacred as something plural, embodied, and relational rather than fixed within traditional patriarchal ideas of divinity. Featuring artists Sandeep Johal, Xiaojing Yan, Kourtney Jackson, and Aaron McIntosh, the exhibition examines themes of gender, spirituality, identity, motherhood, queer experience, ancestry, and connection to land and community.
The exhibition emphasizes how sacred knowledge can emerge through bodies, relationships, storytelling, and cultural traditions. It challenges narrow definitions of “the feminine” by presenting queer and gender-expansive perspectives as central sources of wisdom and creativity rather than marginal experiences. The works draw from Indigenous, Daoist, Black queer, textile, and folk-art traditions to reimagine spirituality through care, resilience, transformation, and resistance.
The exhibition runs from May 7 to August 8, 2026, with programming including artist events, yoga sessions, and community workshops.
