This 2-hr experience of the historic neighbourhood includes exploring the streetscape, visiting the interiors of heritage buildings, dropping by long-time family owned and operated businesses, stopping into an authentic Chinese tea shop, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park, etc. The ideal time is 10 am to 3 pm. This can be a field trip, a family outing, or team-building.
Judy Lam Maxwell is a culinary-heritage tourism operator who leads guided walking tours, food tours, and teaches traditional Chinese dumpling–making in Vancouver’s Chinatown. With more than 20 years of experience in the community, Judy enjoys educating visitors about Chinatown’s unique heritage, people, and its cultural significance.
There is so much to see and do in Vancouver’s iconic Chinatown. You can choose from one of four interactive experiences in Chinatown or arrange a customized tour package.
1. Chinatown Tours and Field Trips: Judy will guide you along the streetscapes, explain the architectural significance of cultural monuments, take you inside historic buildings, and introduce you to local museums. Along the way, you will become acquainted with the sounds and aromas of the neighbourhood, and taste exquisite Chinese teas at an authentic tea shop. So delicious!
2. Chinatown Walk, Historical Talk and Dim Sum: You will walk around Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, explore century-old heritage buildings, learn about Canadian Chinese community associations and leaders, browse local shops, sample authentic Chinese teas, and then enjoy a savory Chinese dim sum meal. It’s so interesting!
3. Masterclass Dumplings: You will take a brief Chinatown tour that includes visiting local businesses where you can find ingredients for Cantonese-style home-cooking, learn how to properly steep Chinese tea, and then master the art of traditional Chinese dumpling–making. Its tasty and nutritious!
4. Dumpling Hop and Cocktail: Vancouver’s Chinatown has a proud history as a food-centric neighbourhood. On this tour, you will visit 3 trendy restaurants in Chinatown to sample different types of dumplings and cocktails. Whether you are foodies, honeymooners, or bachelorettes, this tour is for you!
