Sheila Neufeld is a contemporary Canadian artist who creates radiant, shimmering abstract pieces inspired by the mysteries of the natural world. She completed her art studies in 2004 at Langara College and made a pivotal decision one year later to participate in her first major art show. It was the success she enjoyed there that inspired her to pursue painting full time. Since then Neufeld has travelled extensively and has exhibited at a number of art and trade shows. Her most recent solo exhibition “Universe” was viewed at TELUS World of Science by over 100,000 people. Her art has been commissioned and collected internationally and she is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
“I believe in the beauty of nature and how it reminds us of the infinite possibilities of life. In my most recent series I have created artworks inspired by the different natural environments that I have explored throughout my life and travels. While the theme of my artwork is consistent, each piece is newly discovered as I create layers with acrylic paint and various other textures to create a luminous, multidimensional effect. One of the challenges in my practice is to create depth working with the various opacities and densities of the paints while integrating iridescent pigments layer by layer along with the various textures, natural crystals and their sands. While this process is contemplative even meditative for me it does take a long time to complete a painting. The result is a layering effect which allows the viewer to see different aspects and details with various light sources reminding the viewer of the complexity and magnificence of life.”
