ArtSpring acknowledges the unceded territory and the ancestors of Salt Spring Island, the Coast Salish First Nations peoples of Salt Spring and surrounding areas, who continue to use and steward these lands. We at ArtSpring wish to pay respect to the Elders of this land, past and present.

ArtSpring is a performing and visual arts centre on Salt Spring Island, BC – the largest of the Southern Gulf Islands off Canada’s west coast, and one of North America’s premier artistic communities. The building boasts a 6,600-square-foot, 259-seat theatre, and a 5,200-square-foot exhibition/multi-purpose area. Artists Birgit and Robert Bateman officially opened the building in April 1999.
ArtSpring hosts around 300 events each year, primarily associated with rentals by local performing and visual artists of all ages. ArtSpring is a cultural hub, giving the community the opportunity to present and enjoy theatre productions, choirs, youth music and dance recitals, debates and guest speakers, in a professional stage environment. Our three gallery spaces are used by local visual artists for exhibitions and workshops, and our lobby spaces have month-long art exhibitions year-round.
Our curated season of professional touring artists – ArtSpring Presents – features music, dance, and theatre events that are chosen to complement and enhance what is already available through local organizations. Performers from across Canada, as well as international touring artists, have taken to our intimate stage, some also offering youth and community workshops in music and dance.
