“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment….” (Georgia O’Keefe.) Floribunda! brings that world into view. The group exhibition, open now until October 27, 2018 at the Silk Gallery in Port Moody, features the work of fourteen award-winning and emerging local artists, most of whom specialize in botanical art.

The exhibition displays a range of artistic styles from hyper-realism to impressionism and abstraction. “The show offers viewers a range of expressions to fully realize the captivating nature of floral painting” says curator Zoë Royer, whose artwork is also featured in the exhibition. Floribunda! is the first exhibition in Western Canada to consider Floral painting across a range of styles with a large group of acclaimed, Canadian artists. Developed from a place of intimate experience with the subject matter, Royer’s curatorial process explores the diversity within the tradition of floral painting. By juxtaposing realistic blooms with expressive abstracts, the exhibition brings the classic subject of floral still-life into dialogue with the uniqueness of artistic vision.

Floribunda! features the work of: Jane Appleby, Kimberly Blackstock, Valerie Butters, Barbara Day, Caroline Hallat, Lori Holdenried, Antonio Hyeok Lee, Zoë Royer, Claire Sower, Sandy Terry, Gerry Thompson, Marjorie Turnbull, Jeff Wilson, and Granzyna Wolski.
