The Terrill Welch Gallery Pod is open daily 11-4 for walk in self-browsing at 428 Luff Rd on Mayne Island in British Columbia. Our gallery program brings extraordinary connections to ordinary moments in our natural landscape by connecting art and nature one brushstroke at a time. Canadian landscape painter Terrill Welch encourages you to see with more than your eyes. These artworks invite you to feel as if you are there, with nature and humanity thriving in partnership. The Terrill Welch Gallery first opened in August 2017 on a serene island off the southwest coast of Canada and moved to its current boutique pod location in August 2022. Our unique Mayne Island art gallery in the woods is a day excursion by ferry from either Vancouver or Victoria, British Columbia.
Without a doubt, it is Mayne Island and the Canadian west coast landscape that is the primary muse of artist Terrill Welch. Though locally appreciated, Terrill Welch is internationally collected and represented by Opulent Art Gallery in the United Kingdom in partnership with ARTSY. Her paintings are sold to art collectors throughout Canada and the United States and beyond. In 2024 Terrill Welch accepted an invitation to become the Mayne Island Resort “artist-in residence”. You can view several of her larger and medium sized landscape paintings in the resort lobby.

Thirty years ago, I became the owner of one of Terrill Welch’s original paintings which I cherish. Since, I have had the good fortune to witness Terrill’s talent and success. I’ve attended some of her exhibits and most recently her own gallery on Mayne Island. Prior to my visit to the Art of Terrill Welch gallery, I saw Terrill’s art displayed a few years ago at the Greater Victoria Public Library, Emily Carr branch. Her vibrant art was an impressive addition to that modern bright space. In contrast, seeing Terrill’s art in her gallery, is an opportunity to closely appreciate moments of nature. Visiting Mayne Island is a unique experience and Terrill’s art is a beautiful addition. Her art captures in detail the beautiful surrounding areas of the Island, one feels a close connection between her impressive art and the nearby amazing landscape. A worthwhile experience, highly recommended!

If you should find yourself on Mayne Island, you really must visit the Terrill Welch Art Gallery. Terrill’s work is spectacular. Whether it’s an oil painting or acrylic, Terrill’s art captures the vibrations and textures of British Columbia. Terrill’s ability to paint the relationship between nature and art is well thought through. Her eye for details is unlike anything I have ever seen in an artist before.”

I am a collector of Terrill Welch’s works and have been for more than 12 years. I have witnessed the evolution of her pieces from watercolour to oils, and continue to marvel at how the emotion jumps off the canvas to make one feel part of the scene. Bobbing in ocean waves or high in a treetop, each canvas is a poem by Terrill. To see more than one work is a rich experience, which makes Terrill’s studio a place where you want to linger. Her gallery is a destination event not to be missed. Meeting Terrill in person is the icing on the cake. When you leave with a gorgeous painting under your arm, you will feel like part of the family. Don’t miss this opportunity. Five out of five stars for this destination experience at Terrill’s Mayne Island Art of Terrill Welch Gallery.

Terrill’s paintings of sea and shore are particularly special to me. Some reflect the occasional quiet on a still day where the water laps gently on the rocks and invites one to explore just a little further into what comes next. The paintings I find most engaging are those evoking the wind and spray, the boundless ever-changing energy that clears one’s mind and enlivens one’s spirit. There is a timelessness to Terrill’s sea paintings, as timeless as the sea itself, and as mysterious and soul-stirring, bringing me to stand in spirit on the rocky shores and treasure each moment.

As a collector of Terrill’s art since the mid 1990’s, I love how Terrill’s brushes can bring natural magic to the canvas. Visiting Terrill’s bright and airy Mayne Island Gallery is a sensory and art lover’s delight. The Gallery is nestled in a stunning old home, full of beautiful natural light, with wooden floors, and subtle light to highlight its walls natural treasures. The perennial garden that the Gallery overlooks is a stunner too. While I often enjoy seeing Terrill’s new creations on line, I enjoy a relaxing trip to Mayne Island before I make a final painting decision. I often get to hike the trails or visit the sights of Terrill’s paintings. I come home relaxed and rejuvenated with many years to appreciate my new landscape paintings.
