SLCC Showcases Revitalized Indigenous Exhibits and Summer Cultural Programming for National Indigenous History Month in June.
May 30, 2025 – Whistler, BC (Skwxwú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl shared Territory). National Indigenous History Month in June marks a special time to visit the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) in Whistler as it launches a full month of immersive programming, a community celebration on Saturday, June 21 for National Indigenous Peoples Day and expanded summer access, now open seven days a week.
This summer, guests are invited to explore the revitalized permanent exhibitions in the Great Hall and Gallery One, which now feature updated interpretive content curated through engagement sessions with over 250 community members from the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and Líl̓wat7úl (Lil’wat Nation). These refreshed storyboards share authentic voices, perspectives, and languages that deepen understanding and connection to the land and its people.
Offering daily guided cultural tours, and craft workshops, the SLCC offers meaningful ways for visitors to engage with Indigenous knowledge and living culture. Guests will experience the Legends of the Land exhibition, and newly repatriated Squamish Nation ancestral belongings that emphasize the Centre’s commitment to cultural revitalization and education, as a path toward reconciliation. Daily tours include storytelling with Legends of the Land Tour, the Interpretive Forest Walk and the signature What We Treasure Tour. Vendor Markets will feature artists and creatives from the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation on the first Saturday of every month beginning Saturday June 7, then July 5, August 2 and September 6, along with June 21.
On Saturday, June 21, the SLCC hosts a vibrant National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration with a feature fashion show in partnership with Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week (VIFW) and DJ Kookum, comedy with Keith “Bubbas” Nahanee, live music from Spiritual Warriors, Spo7ez cultural sharing, artist demos, a Curator Tour of the revitalized Great Hall and Gallery One, a bustling Indigenous Artists Market, and Solstice Yoga with Chelsie McCutcheon. Donations are graciously accepted at admission on Saturday, June 21. Generous support provided by Proud Partner CIBC and programming supported by the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
Curator Mixalhítsa7 Alison Pascal shares “We’re excited to host a celebration of Indigenous People by showcasing our Artisans, Comedians and Musicians. Come join us and learn about our culture and history through art.”
With the SLCC now open seven days a week for the summer season, guests can also savour Indigenous-inspired cuisine at the SLCC’s Thunderbird Café, with a weekly feature menu, showcasing locally sourced ingredients and traditional inspirations from the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations, that reflects the land and its living cultures. Guests can also explore the Gallery and Gift Shop, featuring original artwork, carvings, and jewellery, handcrafted by First Nations artists from across the region along with authentic Indigenous home décor, apparel, design and books for learning.
The SLCC is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in June, July, and August. From September onward, the Centre returns to its regular schedule of Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays).
