January 25 – Feb 14
Every year we carefully curate a collection of exquisite, small-scale works with the anticipation of releasing our Small Treasures exhibition at the beginning of the new year. This January marks our 22nd year of hosting Small Treasures and with every passing year, the exhibition reaches new heights.
This year is no exception, and we are incredibly excited to include, for the first time ever, both Inuit and Northwest Coast Indigenous artworks in Small Treasures. This year’s collection features an extraordinary selection of vintage Inuit sculptures from the 1950s through to the 1970s, complemented by a remarkable array of contemporary works from across the Arctic, showcasing the talent of both emerging and renowned artists.
We are thrilled to highlight ten stunning works by celebrated Inuvialuit artist Abraham Anghik Ruben, ranging from intricate umiak sculptures to mesmerizing shamanic animal transformations.
The Northwest Coast Indigenous carvings in this year’s collection are equally noteworthy, including rarely-seen small-scale masks, four of which were carved in the 1980s, exquisite small sculptures by leading artists Dempsey Bob and Phil Gray and creative works by upcoming and established artists alike.
