Chutzpah! Festival is an annual performing arts festival committed to bringing world-renowned international dance, music, theatre, and comedy to Vancouver audiences.
Led by Mary-Louise Albert, Artistic Managing Director and recipient of the 2011 Canada Council for the Arts John Hobday Award for Excellence in Arts Management, Chutzpah! Festival offers eclectic and cutting edge multidisciplinary art presentations by artists that are recognized globally. Presenting more than 100 award-winning performers annually, Chutzpah! Festival creates unforgettable and unique experiences for a wide-ranging, yet discerning audience.
For four weeks, performers from cultural hubs such as Israel, Holland, France, Germany, Cuba, Mexico, USA, and Canada take the stage of Chutzpah! Festival’s home The Norman Rothstein Theatre (NRT), located at the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, as well as at offsite premium venues including the Vogue Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse, Commodore Ballroom, Dance Centre, Venue, The Imperial, Red Room Ultra Bar, Firehall Arts Centre, and the Fox Cabaret, Biltmore Cabaret and Frankie’s Italian Kitchen in 2016.
Chutzpah! Festival was launched in 2001 by the Vancouver West Side Theatre Society. Now in its 16th year, the festival continues to draw attention and acclaim from its audiences and from national media, such as the Globe and Mail, CBC and Dance International Magazine.
This internationally recognized trademark event has expanded to now include the Chutzpah! PLUS spring/summer showcase, artist post-show speaker series, youth workshops, creation dance and theatre residencies in the NRT, literary events, rural BC dance and youth engagement residencies, and an annual film series co-produced with the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival.
The Vancouver West Side Theatre Society, established and incorporated in 1994, also operates the NRT, a professionally equipped 318 seat performing arts proscenium stage theatre catering to the presentation of professional dance, music and theatre, as well as film, literary and community arts events.
Facility is wheelchair accessible, air conditioned and has onsite parking available.
