Discover the story behind every door with the 12th annual Doors Open Richmond, a free city-wide celebration providing access to 40 unique heritage, business and cultural sites. Presented by the Richmond Museum Society in partnership with the City of Richmond, this highly anticipated event takes place on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
During the two-day event, explore diverse destinations including museums and heritage sites, places of worship, green spaces, specialty businesses and artist studios. Eight new sites will open their doors this year including Brighouse Fire Hall No. 1, WildResearch Bird Observatory on Iona Island, and Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks.
This year, enhance your Doors Open Richmond experience with exclusive behind-the-scenes tours. Visit the Artefact Storage Warehouse to see the City’s collection of over 20,000 objects that tell the many stories of Richmond. Follow the Cannery Cat’s footsteps behind the scenes at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, then indulge your sweet tooth and discover how Wild Sweets crafts their chocolate from bean to bar. For lovers of public art, enjoy an engaging Public Art bus tour of the Richmond Olympic Oval’s collection. Seats are limited and cost $5.00 per person for each tour. Registration for these tours is required.
On Saturday, June 1, take part in Walk Richmond Walking Tour between Britannia Shipyards and London Heritage Farm along the picturesque Fraser River or register for a tour of BCIT’s state-of-the-art Aerospace Campus and discover the fleet of light pistons, turboprop, corporate and jet transport aircraft.
