New York City-based lighting artist Bentley Meeker will present “Immaculate Refraction”, a new series of illuminated, sculptural works at Penticton Art Gallery from March 29th through May 12, 2019. An opening party will take place on Friday March 29th
from 8 pm – midnight followed by a special opening reception on Saturday March 30th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
On view will be more than 40 new works, in addition to a site-specific installation in the gallery’s Project Room, that addresses the interplay between single frequencies of light and refractive elements and formations. A free talk given by Meeker will be held in the gallery on Saturday, March 30th at 2pm.
The installation in the Bench 1775 Gallery consists of forty-two meticulously constructed sculptures that create a unifying tableau drawing upon and challenging our understanding of the natural world. Meeker’s works scrape down our experience of artificial light to its rawest components, contrasting light frequencies and their resulting hues as observable springboards for contemplation, Meeker nudges the observer toward a new awareness about our environment by creating perceptional effects that are felt by the viewer long after the show is over.
Admission is free.
