  • Abbotsford Arts Council hosts Reworked and Reassembled and Painting Canada 150!

The Abbotsford Arts Council is pleased to announce its latest exhibition starting November 25th at the Kariton Art Gallery (2387 Ware St.). Reworked and Reassembled presents artists Lianne Mitchell and Alex Stuart who use found objects and unexpected materials as the basis of artistic expression.

Lianne Mitchell has always been a very tactile and sensitive person, and has been nurturing her creative side since childhood. Her sculptures are assembled from objects collected during the many hours spent walking in urban and natural environments, and reflect the world at large and the issues facing our culture today.

Alex Stuart uniquely draws from his experience in industrial and automotive painting, which has in turn augmented his processes and influenced his work. Primarily working in stencil, spray paint and collage Рhe uses both wood and steel as his canvas. Each piece is made with hand-cut stencils that are used a limited number of times Рsometimes only once Рbefore being destroyed.

Painting Canada 150! presents 15 creative students from The Gurmat Center who celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by painting all 10 provinces and 3 territories. Upon learning about Canada, these young artists reflect the unique culture and historical symbolism of our entire country through watercolour paintings.

The exhibition runs until December 19th.  Please join us at the opening reception on Saturday, November 25th from 6-8pm. There will be light refreshments provided and the artists will be in attendance.
